Special Statement - June 2020
The Madison County Democrats stand in solidarity with our fellow human beings and with communities across the nation in this heated time of despair. We recognize the long and deep history of oppression that has brought us to this moment and stand against all forms of inequality that position some communities against others. We know that our country will survive and be better for our struggle at this time.
Being a citizen comes with the inherent responsibility of influencing the world to be better, more just, and more compassionate. Madison County Democrats condemn racism and racial violence in all its forms, recognizing the power of education and the ethical imperative of striving to create and sustain an anti-racist community. We stand for the goal of working towards a less divided, more unified society where all voices are equally heard.
Madison County Democrats are committed to moving forward in seeking racial justice by supporting the voices of People of Color and engaging in thoughtful listening and constructive dialogue, while showing care and understanding for all people. We support peaceful, constructive dialog with those with whom we disagree and we understand that public safety should be at the heart of all policing. We do not support the militarization of our police forces or the use of military force in trying to control Americans exercising their right to petition the government.

We will be supporting candidates in this year’s election who understand the contributions that people of color make to this country, including those who serve in police and public safety forces, public health services, and on the front lines of our economy during this pandemic.
